Panama approves 29 MW of PV projects

Enel, which built the country’s first PV plant, has already signed a grid agreement for a new 9 MW project. The Italian group is eager to develop Panama’s solar sector.

Panama’s Public Services Authority (ASEP) has granted conditional approval for two PV projects with a combined capacity of 29 MW.

Local developer Bajo Frío PV SA is set to build the 19.95 MW Proyecto Solar Bajo Frío in the western province of Chiriquí. Enel Fortuna SA, a local subsidiary of Italian multinational renewable energy corporation Enel Green Power, likewise received approval for its 9 MW Chiriquí plant, located in the same province. Enel has already signed a grid deal with local energy distributor Empresa de Distribución Chiriquí SA for the project.
